IU-Green warns of possible illegality of the rising water (26/03/2014)

Councilman IU-Greens in the city of Murcia, José Ignacio Tornel, today warned of the possible illegality of rising water rates that the Board of Directors of the joint venture Emuasa approved last March 3.

Tornel has indicated that the increase in rates is meaningless since Emuasa, consisting as publicly owned company since 51 percent is municipal, 2013 exceeded 4.7 million profit, compared over a million the previous year.

The mayor discussed a letter from the city comptroller in response to a plea by IU-Greens in the February plenary session, which confirms that it has not been issued the mandatory city auditor report on the proposed rate increase.

To this Tornel added the "risk of corruption" that follows from the absence of such audit report.

He also alleged that the Council this afternoon Emuasa presents the accounts for 2013 without having received an oversight report of the accounts presented by the private part of the company.

In fact, Tornel indicated he would ask the comptroller to manifest in this regard, in order to have "maximum guarantees" that the representatives of the government team in the Council are not committing an irregularity.

Also, IU-Greens councilor has warned of "potentially unlawful" the mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, and the Board of Directors of Emuasa, during both the rate increase and the presentation of accounts 2013.

He recalled that the decision to approve the rate increase by the Municipal Government Board may void under the law of the Legal Regime of Public Administrations, lacking the oversight report.

He also announced he will not sign the accounts of 2013 if the "potentially unlawful" is not clear, and noted that the adoption of them may be delayed until clarified this point, since the term is six months from the beginning of the year.

"Public administration must enforce the law and protect the right of citizens to transparent public services," added Tornel, after announcing that this protest on the possible illegality of the rising water has also joined the Socialist municipal group .
