For Murcia, the importance of winning the fight to climate change becomes larger due to the extreme temperatures reached, water scarcity, severe droughts and increasing the danger of forest fires.

Murcia is expected that temperatures rise an average of 3 degrees, the maximum-and minimum-two degrees.

The European Commission has put in the service of Mayors initiative called Adapt European Platform for Climate Change Adaptation through the Alliance for Climate entity with which the City of Murcia is already working and invite the rest of Spanish cities looking to join the proposal.

Murcia submit a draft of its Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change, which will build on the excellent results obtained by the Local Climate Change Strategy.

The local strategy of Murcia

Murcia, through the Covenant of Mayors, became one of the first cities in Spain to commit to 20-20-20, which is to reduce their energy consumption by 20%, increase the use of renewable energy to 20 % and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases also in the same proportion, 20% by 2020.

In this pioneering attitude was further strengthened by increasing the required amount of CO2 emission reduction of 20% to 40%, by creating and increasing carbon sink plantations locally.

The City of Murcia, GERMAN through their Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change under the Department of Environment, again demonstrates its leadership and commitment to energy efficiency and combating climate change, stating their intention to be one of the first European cities, and therefore the first Spanish city to be part of this innovative and important European initiative.
