An exhibition at the Museum of Science and Water closer to the citizen the causes and consequences of light pollution (13/03/2014)

The exhibition 'Dark Light' shown at The Museum of Science and Water today aims to raise public awareness of the problems of light pollution.

The exhibition will be open until December 14, 2014.

Using interactive models, experiments, immersive environments or pieces of great historical value, the public can learn many aspects of this problem to know how it affects the problem and the proposed solutions to eradicate it.

The exhibition is organized into four sections that will know the basic principles of light and vision, as well as the causes and consequences of light pollution and solutions to reduce their effects:

-Physics of Light: About a practical and understandable for any citizen important physics concepts that reveal deeper what happens when we introduce too much artificial light in the atmosphere.

-Causes of light pollution: Define the problem and clarifies common misconceptions, and specifies how, what, how much and when illuminated.

A set of guidelines that, despite its simplicity, applied rarely appear in our streets, parks and neighborhood communities are discussed.

Consequences of light pollution: The exhibit shows the many facets of the environment that are affected by this phenomenon.

The most obvious manifestation of light pollution is the disappearance, in varying degrees, the starry sky, a phenomenon that has turned the sky into a largely unknown to the young.

-Solutions and perspectives: a series of initiatives and different ways to quantify and combat light pollution are presented.

Light pollution interferes with daily life issues such as the impact on the energy crisis, climate change, declining biodiversity or own quality of life of citizens presenting health problems in cases such as alteration of sleep cycles and disorders of hormonal processes.
