IU-Greens criticized the new rising water rates (11/03/2014)

Councilman IU-Greens in the city of Murcia, José Ignacio Tornel, today considered "nonsense" that water rates are increased in the current economic and social context while Emuasa get huge profits each year.

At a press conference, stated that Emuasa Tornel obtained in 2012 about five million benefits, demonstrating that "far from being a company in distress" is in a good financial situation.

The mayor noted that the increase approved by the Board of Directors of the Company on 3 March with the opposition PSOE and IU-Greens, is 49 cents per month and 180,000 the number of users, which is Emuasa will pocket a million euros a year.

"We find that Aguas de Barcelona, which is what is behind all this, is not any hindrance in increasing their profit at a time when most families are spending an awful situation," he noted.

In his view, the new social allocation plan, reduced from 200,000 to 300,000 euros, "could increase to 500,000 in so far as this increase has cost the company and ultimately we will have to assume the customer."

To Tornel, the measure to ensure a minimum consumption is actually a right and an obligation of public authorities.

He recalled that his training provided in 2011 an initiative requesting that the minimum consumption will ensure people in poverty, but was rejected by the PP, "the same as with the same proposal to the Board of Emuasa admits ".

"It gives the impression that the PP is calibrating what will happen in 2015 before the upcoming municipal elections, and we are trying not believe that the party tries to implement populist measures to keep the Gaza humble voters."

As for the proposal of five dollars per month flat rate, has stated that it is "another way of ensuring 12,000 per year for Emuasa" so that "he who pays is the usual as the company all the benefits takes" , which "is indecent and has no social sense."

Tornel has also criticized the government team did not share with the other groups the proposed rate increase, which has prevented the internal debate to an "important" as this measure goes "a simple management PP ".

In this regard, he recalled that his group asked in Parliament February report by an auditor of the general municipal intervention to ensure the legality of the proposal.

In addition, the IU-Greens councilor has sent a communication to Emuasa to inform you that your local group had not received specific information before the conclusion of the last Board of Emuasa.

"We wonder if the PP councilors had prior knowledge of all the reasons to vote as they did in favor of the proposal or simply exercised their voting delegate such responsibility in the grounds of the private party, which would be irresponsible."

The mayor said it will closely monitor both the debate and open judicial proceedings for consideration of the rates of water supply rate and not as public or private money.

While he has indicated that they are experts who have to decide on it, has advocated consideration of rates because this would be the "sole and authentic social action."

"We'd better not increase each year by the social fund while undergoing the generality of the people to a public or private money for the fat profit Aguas de Barcelona," he added, after remark that if the mayor has really will put launched a social action fight because A tax is considered.

Furthermore, Tornel has announced that the company will consult Emuasa by the significance of the economic value retained on the corporate responsibility report 2012 Aguas de Murcia and amounts to eight million euros.

"We understand that equals profit but we want to be prudent and responsible for Emuasa we explain it," he concluded.
