The UCAM awards in Madrid to the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples (03/03/2014)

Monsignor Luis Manuel Wedge noted that the award "is for all the missionaries of all time who have given their lives to communicate the joy of faith"

The San Antonio Catholic University of Murcia, through the International Institute of Charity and Volunteer John Paul II (IICV), was held this morning at the Amphitheatre Gabriela Mistral Casa de America in Madrid, an emotional award ceremony of 'Solidarity 2014 'This year has been for the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.

The director of the Historical Archive of the Congregation, Archbishop Luis Manuel Ramos Wedge, received the award, which recognizes the work done and make missionaries on indigenous peoples.

The award ceremony took place during the closing ceremony of the Second International Decade of the World's Indigenous People, set in the XIII Conference of Charity and Voluntary Murcia has celebrated the institution and are sponsored Pontifical Council Cor Unum.

The ceremony was attended by the director of the John Paul II IICV and Vice Chancellor of University Extension UCAM, Antonio Alcaraz, Vice Rector for International Relations and Communication UCAM Paul Blesa, Archbishop Luis Manuel Wedge, the head of the Department of Cooperation with Countries Andean and Southern Cone of the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development (AECID), Carlos Aragón Gil de la Serna, or the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, Anastasio Garcia Gil, among others.

They have intervened during the ceremony the ambassadors of Afghanistan, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, El Salvador, Macedonia, Palestine and representatives of other embassies.

"We understand that the award honors a group that is working, not only theoretically, but also practical and experiential, sharing your life with so many people," said Antonio Alcaraz.

Meanwhile, Carlos Aragón stressed the importance of "not forget that indigenous peoples have indices lower than the average social and economic development."

To further assist this growth, José Andrés Martínez, student representative UCAM who attended the award ceremony, said he must "keep working in cooperation with indigenous peoples" and reaffirmed the commitment of the new generations with human rights.

Sample Volunteer

Over seventy organizations gathered at the International Exhibition of Charity and Volunteering, which located in the Paseo de Alfonso X the Wise of Murcia, showed the company the work done by these institutions in the field of assistance to the needy were given within of the Region, as well as serving as a tribute for the important work they perform.
