21 schools are the School Gardens Network (25/02/2014)

Schools with school garden team up to provide better services.

The Department of Environment, which launched six years ago, a school garden program creates now Network organic school gardens in the municipality of Murcia, which aims to provide participating schools more tools to keep these green areas.

A total of 21 schools that have joined to propose eta Network offer the following benefits:

- Advisory service.

- Support the planning and implementation of the orchards.

- An annual prize of materials for the school garden.

- Loan tools.

- Service literature and documentation of school gardens and organic farming.

- Environmental education activities,

- Making teaching units for school gardens.

- Talks of entities and / or experts involved in organic farming, health, food, etc..

- Dissemination of school gardens on websites and social networks.

- A distinctive image of the Network

- Organization of training sessions to exchange experiences.

In addition schools will commit to:

- Create a team coordinator or powerplant, which may be composed of teachers, parents, members of the neighborhood council, etc..

- Appoint a coordinator of the school garden.

- Define objectives for the school garden.

- Use the school garden as a teaching resource.

- Integrate the garden in the school curriculum.

- Approve the educational project on "school garden in the center" by the School Board.

- Perform the work of care and maintenance of the school garden.

- Respect the principles and rules of organic farming.

Once established this Network will aim to promote mechanisms for participation and dissemination between the centers of the municipality of Murcia and the city involved, and to assess and recognize the work of schools and teachers themselves.

Thanks to the school garden program of the Department of Environment, for which it has been more than thirty centers, there have been numerous environmental education activities, workshops, plantations, audiovisual, loan tools ...

The school garden is a teaching environmental disclosure proposal aims to facilitate the practical knowledge of the techniques of organic farming and its contribution to sustainable development.

The Programme for their eminently practical features and comprehensive framework of action encompasses different processes and areas of knowledge and learning related to the school curriculum.
