The City and Anse work in the recovery of the native flora of the margins of the Segura River between Murcia and La Contraparada (06/02/2014)

Murcia City Council and the Association of Southeast Naturalist (anse) have joined forces to carry out important work of recovery of native vegetation of a total of nine curves forest on the banks of the River Segura in Murcia passing through and Contraparada.

It is painstaking work, which has required an analysis of the different areas, and is performed for the first time in the town of Murcia.

The nine curves in which it is acting are: Contraparada, Fca.

Powder, La Raya, El Soto, El Soto de la Hoya, Rubber Dam, Illanez Corner, Corner Seca (I) and Rincón de Seca (II).

Recovery efforts of trees and shrubs, already began last January, and have recovered some 736 plants in six curves.

All actions are under the supervision of the Segura basin.

The collaboration between the city of Murcia, through the Department of Environment and ASEAN has been constant since after the study of plant species in the area have had to carry out the planting of selected species in nurseries municipal and nurseries in the Southeast Association of Naturalists, among other nurseries.

Native plants that are occurring and being planted in the curves are the baladre, elm, poplar and yellow lily.

For actions that are being carried out, the city of Murcia has provided local project staff and local media and technical resources, such as production plants in the municipal nursery, the involvement of volunteer environmental environmental program "Let pineapple" municipal shovel to perform to make holes in the plantations and relocation to Woodland planting sites and the use of the track loader in tight areas .

With this production plant, the city of Murcia operated municipal nurseries, some public spaces with about 93,000 square feet of Greenhouses in the Mayayo, which have been put into operation by the associations: anse, Braces and PEEM.

Planned actions

Following the work carried out in six of the nine bends of the river, with the planting of 736 plants, there is a predicted plantations and work to be performed are the following:

- Continue with the clearing of vegetation (reeds)

- Logging and eradication of alien species.

- Continue production of native plants.

- Pruning and stool cleaning of existing native trees to keep the channel section (particularly in the case of Tamirix canariensis).

- Opening of holes

- Planting and placement of protective guardians.

- Irrigation planting

- Clearing reiterated during the first two years, places to avoid competition cane.

From the Department of Environment is to give special importance to this type of action, not only for the relevance of vegetation recovery posed to the green spaces of the village, but also the collaborative work between the local administration and associations and groups in the municipality of Murcia as a way to allow foster and enhance their environmental performance.
