Students of Veterinary Medicine, University of Murcia devised an innovative system for finding lost pets (06/02/2014)

Álvaro González and Francisco Climent Rubén Bonet graders in Veterinary Medicine, University of Murcia, along with Alvaro Serrano Echalecu student of Computer Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, an innovative project developed for locating lost pets.

It consists of an identification badge, who called WAP (Where Are Pets), incorporating a QR code readable by anyone with smartphone or tablet connected to the network.

As well, the medal bears an alphanumeric code that is associated with a website, where the information of the animal and owner of the show you want, and geolocation system that indicates the exact position of the pet is.

The idea, discussed students emerged after checking every week numerous posters of lost animals are hung.

"We started to think about why so many pets are lost and what solution could give him."

"Every year, calculated in Spain 200,000 pets are lost, 41% of the owners has lost on occasion and 26% did not recover again."

The identification medal WAP is also a complement to the mandatory veterinary chips, "they can only be read by veterinarians and some protective and not everyone is willing to travel with a pet lost to these places."

"In addition, the dog or cat has to wear implemented as it is usual that many people choose not to wear it to their pets."
