Proceedings four roundabouts will provide greater security for cyclists (24/01/2014)

Murcia will be safer for cyclists through the project to be executed by the Department of Traffic and Transportation, through the European project Mobisec, and seeks to improve road safety in the municipality four roundabouts.

The objective of this initiative is the implementation of certain measures such roundabout intersections of the city to improve road safety thereof.

The first phase is to act in the following roundabouts:

- HIGHWAY INTERSECTION ON ALCAYNA - ALTORREAL: It is situated on the road to La Alcayna and Altorreal and gives access to the shopping area of New Condomina.

The current problem is its small geometric dimensions, the longitudinal slope high, causing excessive vehicle speed north-south and low-speed vehicles in south-north direction, and intensity of traffic very broken, with high points coinciding with inputs / outputs of the working hours and on holidays for access to the shopping and football stadium.

It is therefore proposed to reduce the velocity of 30 km / h, with vertical signs implemented install LEDs to increase visibility and warning signs of habitual presence of cyclists on the road.

Also be placed in roadside reflector, a sequential cascade light inside curb and soundtracks notice to the intersection.

- INTERSECTION ON N-301, North Campus Access to University Espinardo

It is a large roundabout, which supports a very high normal vehicle traffic and heavy vehicles.

To this is added the high speed movement of vehicles.

The proposed solutions are to reduce the flow speed 30 km / h, install soundtracks notice on additions to the gazebo and illuminated panels place similar to those used by the tram which are activated by push buttons.

When passing a cyclist the drives and flash to inform drivers of the presence of cyclists on the roundabout, automatically turning off after.

- INTERSECTION ON AVENUE ROCAMORA - CALLE MAYOR OF ESPINARDO

Traffic is to segregate out a bike lane to increase the safety of both the riders and the rest of users.

This existing signalized intersections and sidewalks of the roundabout take advantage.

Once the intersection safely cycle path continues parallel to the extension of the Rocamora Avenue, and later resume its original route through the existing boulevard Espinardo Marques Avenue.

- INTERSECTION ON AVENUE SOUTH ROUND - AVENUE OF PAIN.

In this case the intersection has a significant intensity at a high speed traffic flow from some slip roads.

The work to be performed are to reduce the velocity to 30 km / h, implement vertical bright LED type signals, install reflector in a sequential outer shoulders and waterfall in indoor light curb the roundabout.

No soundtracks are placed because they can cause excessive nuisance to neighbors.

The total budget for the construction project is 111,407.53 euros and the execution time is four months.

To this we must add another action that is also part of Mobisec project: installing enclosures intended for bicycle parking at the main entrances to the town.

The aim is to offer the possibility to people who commute daily into the city in his private vehicle to do so by public transport (bus - tram).

This enclosure will be installed so that people can access from their home to the public transport cycling and save adequate security.

The enclosure design is very distinctive curved shapes to be easily recognizable by users.

Have a covered metal frame and an opening device and lock the likeness of the existing ones, with a magnetic key that the user will have available.

Each enclosure is designed to accommodate a total of 20 bicycles.

These bicycle parking be located on the campus of the University of Murcia, Campus of the Catholic University, Avenida Juan Carlos I (Espinardo), Avenida Don Juan de Borbón (Churra), Don Juan de Borbón Avenue (paratroopers Plaza: Murcia entering the following heading to Plaza Cubes) roundabout, Bus Station, Ronda Sur (City of Justice) and South Ronda (Patiño)

The total budget of 83,552 euros and the execution time is six months.

The 2012-2014 Mobisec project is funded by the Directorate General of Transport of the European Commission.

The main objective is to get safer for cyclists to have a more efficient and clean city urban mobility.

The Mobisec project started with an idea developed by the city of Murcia, which invited two European cities (Oldham UK and Varna in Bulgaria) to participate.

The leader is Murcia.

The overall project budget is 1,271,000 euros, targeting over 500,000 Murcia.
