Architecture students made the Catholic rehabilitation projects in municipalities in the region (24/01/2014)

The UCAM has launched the Hall of Social Architecture (ASA), an initiative that aims to strengthen the link between the University and society through the development, by grades in Architecture and Building Engineering of projects for rehabilitation of infrastructure in the municipalities of the region.

The AAS is directed by the director of the degrees in Architecture and Building Engineering, Juan Roldan Ruiz and his teachers-coordinators Carlos González Sánchez, Lorenzo Thomas Gabarron and Javier Sánchez Clog.

This new initiative will allow students to go a step further in their training, and to actual practice.

As indicated by Juan Roldan, "in most subjects proyectual or technical jobs that often are fictitious develop, so it is that these works are applied to specific areas of the city, who have trouble architectural- urban, and will be studied in order to be solved, and raised administrations. "

Gabarron Lorenzo Thomas, one of the coordinators of the project, pointing as another aspect to highlight this initiative, also show students the social function of architecture, "their future professional work does not have to be directed to major projects but there is a bigger picture in which his role as coach is essential to improve the quality of life of the most disadvantaged sectors of the population. "

Current Projects

Currently they are already working on two projects in the Classroom Social Architecture: one with the Department of Environment of the City of Murcia and another with the city of Molina de Segura.

In the case of developed in the capital, will try to rehabilitate public spaces Rosales del Barrio of El Palmar.

The project, to be conducted in phases, is an analysis of the problems of the district for further intervention in existing urban spaces.

Furthermore, it is noteworthy that the Department is committed to implement the project raised by students and guided by teachers and municipal officers, whose main objective is to improve the quality of life of local residents.

Similarly, along with the city of Molina de Segura is working on rehabilitation and enhancement of the historic town.

This is performing an analysis of the pathologies of the most dilapidated buildings, a subsequent proposal for rehabilitation, the same way a number of criteria for future construction or alterations that could be included in municipal regulations (General Plan or Plans shall be drawn Specials).
