Enlargement treatment center consolidates Murcia head of cities in sustainable and effective waste management (25/11/2013)

The Mayor and the Director of the Presidency this morning visited the redevelopment of the Municipal Treatment Center Cañada Hermosa.

The action involves the construction of 6 new plants, with an investment of EUR 30 million and creating 300 jobs.

Next summer will start operating the new facilities are constructed in the award of cleaning and waste management services Cespa Urban Murcia (Ferrovial Services).

The investment will expand the current treatment capacity of containers and rest, improved sludge composting process, and incorporate new ones, as the recovery of electrical and electronic equipment, rejection and bulky and industrial waste and waste biomethanisation organic.

An investment of 30 million euros and 12 months of work-in-first phase will allow Murcia continue at the forefront of European cities in the management of their waste.

Expanding Treatment Center Cañada Hermosa initiated in June will involve the construction of 6 new facilities that will integrate more than 15 types of treatment for waste generated by Murcia, which in 2013 will exceed 500,000 tonnes.

The works, which require hiring 300 direct and indirect jobs, and respond to municipal concerns remain a leader in the recovery and recovery of their waste.

As a result of this project, will increase by 25% the service personnel attending to a final template 65 workers.

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, and Minister of the Presidency, Manuel Campos, this morning visited the center, accompanied by Councilman street cleaning and waste management, Jose Ros, along with executives of the contractor, Cespa (Ferrovial Services ), among others, Ignacio Gaston, CEO of Ferrovial Servicios Spain, Vicente Galvan, Director of the Competence Center Environment, Rosa Forcada, Treatment and Industrial Director, and Antonio Igualada, director of Urban Services Cespa of Murcia.

Patrick also attended Valverde, Director General of Estrella de Levante, and Miguel López Abad, Manager of Waste Paris.

The delegation has reviewed the works being carried out, of which already run 70% of buildings and 75% of the civil works.

I mean, are starting to see the results.

"Valuing the most of our waste not only means that we invest in the future, but also represents an evident proof that environmental protection is an overarching principle that is present in all management undertaken by the City of Murcia," he said Mayor, who also said that "if and Treatment Center of Cañada Hermosa had placed us at the forefront of European cities in waste management, Murcia after this expansion will be established as a world leader in efficiency and sustainability in the recovery of their waste. "

So House notes that "Murcia city has established itself as committed to the conservation of the environment, making it compatible with a quality public service in waste management."

In this sense, the Mayor pointed out that the award of service Cespa (Ferrovial Services) gave "an essential role in environmental sustainability and enhancement of waste".

Maximum sustainability and minimal environmental impact

The current implementation of the treatment center in 1995 was a milestone in the management of waste that put Murcia on the forefront of Spanish cities.

At that time, the project was the opening of a sorting MSW composting plant and landfill, which subsequently joined biogas plant, the plant container selection, the current composting plant for municipal solid waste and sewage sludge treatment plant and leachate incinerator for dead animals.

The expansion that is now underway will enable the City to meet the objectives that arose with the new award Cespa (Ferrovial Services) the Urban Cleaning Service and Waste Management in 2011, which are that:

- Security management future (award for a period of 25 years)

- Maximum and minimum impact environmental sustainability

- Maximum number of treatments (more than 15)

- Maximum product recovery, with the necessary levels of quality

- Energy balance (currently 100% self-sufficient)

- Minimization of rejection controlled landfill

The six new facilities will allow maximum utilization of waste and consist of:

1) _ Pizza Selection Plant and Containers: Destined to treat waste collection containers green (rest) and yellow (containers), construction-budgeted at 6.2 million euros, double the capacity of the residue rest-251119 Tm/Año- currently treated and triple the container-managed 6,874 Tm/Año- today, responding to future needs.

The civil work is almost completed and the facilities are being initiated, so that next summer could be launched.

2). _ Treatment Plant Industrial Waste and Bulky.

It is waste generated in homes, shops, offices, and services obtained through the special collection service of household goods.

Be ready in the summer and will have capacity to handle 41,000 tonnes / year of industrial waste and 5,000 tons / year bulky.

3). Production plant _ Solid Recovered Fuel.

At present, the Rejects from Treatment Center are destined for the controlled deposit.

With this plant, rejections of plant selection the rest fraction of MSW and lightweight packaging, and commercial and industrial waste, bulky, with a high calorific value, will become a solid recovered fuel (CSR) to be used as alternative fuel in co-combustion facilities (cement plants, power plants and industrial furnaces), contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases and dependence on fossil fuels.

Become operational in summer with a capacity to treat 20 t / h, gradually, to 40 t / h in 2031.

4). _ Sludge Drying Plant.

Its construction will improve the current process of composting sludge from WWTP (wastewater treatment plant) whose main objective is to achieve a reduction of sludge moisture 60-80%, obtaining a product with minimum water content .

The four tunnels allow drying initially treat 20,000 tonnes per year, which also represents a clear commitment to renewable energy (solar energy).

It is ready for operation earlier this year, after an investment of 2.5 million euros.

Is expected to double its capacity in 2018 with the construction of a similar plant attached.

5). _ Treatment Plant Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).

With a budget of 5.1 million and in collaboration with Paris Scrapping combines environmental protection with obtaining materials of high value recovered so far were not treated in Cañada Hermosa.

It will have 1,500 resilience kgr / time PAEE (small appliance) and 20 refrigerators / time and also have a specific line for the treatment of life vehicles and decontaminated.

In addition to promoting environmental protection, treatment consists of cutting all the elements of the apparatus thus enabling reuse.

Among the advantages to be derived from the construction of this plant is the increase of materials recovered from the waste generated in the town, to provide coverage to a new range currently being treated outside Murcia, along with the possibility of a higher valuation of metallic waste currently generated in the Treatment Center Cañada Hermosa.

6) _ Plant Biomethanisation. With the almost complete civil works and 50% of completed installations, and after an investment of 2.7 million euros, will be operational in summer.

It is newly established within the center and allow the generation of biogas recovery in the treatment center.

The plant, in collaboration with Estrella de Levante, is the first that projects of this type in Spain.

It will have capacity to treat 10,000 tonnes of organic matter or food products and generate one million cubic meters of biogas per year, which will be used to generate electricity or bagasse drying beer.

This plant is the result of the collaboration agreement signed in 2012 R + D + i and is part of the development goals of treatment center Cañada Hermosa with complementary activities and use of their potential.

Add interest to project the fact of having the support of the Ministry of Economy for innovation.
