The European Union has chosen the city of Murcia to host MOBISEC, a project that will last until May 2014 and aims to increase the safety of pedestrians and cyclists in daily contact with motor vehicles, and promote the use of bicycles as a regular means of transport in the city, thanks to the collaboration of a group of volunteer bikers.
The city of Murcia, the company Neosistec and San Antonio Catholic University of Murcia are working on this initiative.
The part which is handling the UCAM is the branch of technology and all the work that depends on it to operate the project, which includes a free application for smartphones (Android, iPhone, iPad and Blackberry) with whom to share the paths usually do bike users.
Volunteers who download the app will have access to routes which have traveled also to participate in ranking and qualify for prizes related to road safety and sport.
250 volunteers are needed.
"We want the citizens of Murcia cycling using join the project, because what it does is just as important as improving the safety of cyclists and pedestrians," says Rafael Melendreas, project manager.
MOBISEC Murcia also has the support of the main associations of cyclists, the Cycling Federation of Murcia, the Local Youth Council of Murcia and all the Local Shops Cycling the municipality.
