IU-Greens believe that the situation of water infrastructure plan is unsustainable (30/08/2013)

The spokesman for IU-Greens in the city of Murcia, Esther Herguedas, denounced in a press conference today that the floods that routinely occur in certain areas of the municipality are a result of poor urban planning that has brought growth and land clearing have been built without the necessary infrastructure to channel rainwater.

"The residents of flood-Murcia pay the consequences of speculation and consistently areas of the city are suffering from this type of situation when it rains so heavy," said the mayor, who has cited as examples the areas close to the Ramblas Churra and Espinardo, James, and Ronda Sur or St. Pius X.

Herguedas has not hesitated to describe the situation caused by the uncontrolled development of the municipality as "chaotic and no prospect of immediate solutions" because, due to the current economic crisis and real estate, many infrastructures are paralyzed and not be executed by the competent authorities to not have the resources to fund, part of which should be obtained from the developers responsible for the development works.

He recalled that in the north, where he concentrated most of the urban developments, planned interceptor run a large storm, a large tank of storms and several collectors, among other actions.

Most of these works are not executed or are executed partially and the sections are not connected, which are still using traditional network is totally inadequate.

It has also argued that in the southern citizens had to pay through the water bill collector works should have been executed by those responsible for urban planning of the area and not initially foreseen.

This work is executed only 25 percent of schedule, so it does not solve the problems of the neighborhoods of St. James and St. Pius X, said.

In this situation, the IU-Greens councilor returns to claim the revision of the municipal infrastructure plan, as safety can not wait to come back to take off the brick.

"We need-states-meet the real and current needs of the people living in this area, whose assets and businesses do not have to pay the consequences of speculation."

Therefore announced that his group will request the establishment of a commission in addition to complete information on the real and current status of these infrastructures and consider revision of these plans, provide solutions ymedio real short term for existing problems .

The mayor has also been directed to the responsible Public Safety, Nuria Fuentes, to ask if by the various councils, municipal services and companies have taken steps to mitigate as far as possible the consequences of torrential rains with other actions, as the most conscientious maintenance of the scuppers or safety device is provided for emergencies.
