The City and the University of Murcia collaborate on mobility and transportation (12/08/2013)

The city of Murcia and the University of Murcia sign an agreement to work together on technologies associated with mobility and transport.

The City Council is competent urban public transport from the city of Murcia, including the different modes of transport and their interrelationships, in the public interest and the objectives of efficiency and social utility.

Since 2012 Murcia MOBISEC leads the European Project 'mobility initiatives for a sustainable European communities' from 2012 to 2014, which has among its objectives the promotion of intermodal transport.

For its part, the University of Murcia has performed and ICT developments for promoting mobility (academic and general) as Versicar system, car sharing, management systems transport routes, Bicicampus system, the Sustainable Campus Project Car Free Day among others.

This agreement involves personnel from both institutions to promote the exchange of experience and transfer of knowledge, and has no funding.

The aim of MOBISEC is improving road safety and integrating different modes of urban transport in the city, so that citizens can have a well integrated public service.

The UMU work with the City to develop the website of the Department of Traffic and Transportation, which contain a powerful new tool for route planning, in which citizens may consult optimal routes for you to travel in various modes of transport and institutional information.

The Department is working on the installation of traffic monitoring cameras that allow the transmission of signals through the future site of the Department and that in turn can be viewed from other internet portals.

At the beginning of 2014 will be available an application for smartphones that allows users to tram and bus meet planned schedules and arrival schedules of urban transport vehicles.

This application aims to integrate the various modes of transport in the city of Murcia.

MOBISEC The European project is led by the city of Murcia, also involved the cities of Varna (Bulgaria) and Oldham (United Kingdom).

50% is co-financed by the European Commission.

The total project budget is 1,271,000 euros.
