The Department of Environment has begun work on the project Electra, for the implementation of a system of electric scooter rental in the town, whose study is funded by the European Commission.
With the implementation of a public rental electric scooters, known as bike-sharing, is to contribute to reducing emissions of greenhouse gases due to urban transport, define and test an innovative model for the development of sustainable mobility urban areas and solve the mobility needs of citizens.
In this project, are working also the cities of Florence, Genoa, Athens, Barcelona, ​​Zagreb and Lisbon.
Murcia collaborate with these cities and exchange experiences during the 30 month duration of this initiative.
The first meeting was held in Genoa collaboration to outline common strategies and working lines to be followed by each of the member cities.
The initiative involves a large number of agencies and social groups such as universities, transportation companies, shopping centers, manufacturers, suppliers of electric vehicles, tourism businesses and citizens that could potentially use the system.
The Councillor for the Environment, Adela Martinez-Cache, pointed out the importance of "the participation of all social groups to study a real feasibility and implementation of a service that will please and serve everyone, meets the needs of local mobility, the care for the environment, create jobs and provide innovation and service to the city ".
Among the activities that will take place during the development of the project is the completion of the feasibility study for the implementation of the system according to the characteristics of mobility of Murcia, conducting surveys at different groups, creating promotional materials and distribution system electric motorcycle loan, as well as information and communication events.
