Keys to encourage and promote tourism and economic activity of the municipality of Murcia (16/07/2013)

The Councillor for Employment, Trade and Business, José María Tortosa, inaugurated this morning the conference "Opportunities and initiatives for job creation in the tourism sector," a work session that served to publicize the findings of the study carried out.

The aim of the conference is to create, maintain or improve the involvement of different public and private entities, participants and beneficiaries, in pursuance of the objectives of the project "Identification of generating employment opportunities in the tourism sector in the Local Employment of the Huerta de Murcia ".

The study has been carried out is aimed at identifying opportunities and initiatives for job creation in the tourism sector to the municipalities that make up the Commission of the Huerta de Murcia.

The study has been identified the tourism sector as one that, in general, the more potential offers and needed the implementation of actions to improve the attractiveness and potential of the municipalities of this commission.

To do this, you have to implement strategies based on the reorientation of the different products to very specific groups and promote it, seasonally adjusted in order to offer the seasons and throughout the year, with the support of activities that have to go through facilitating the establishment of new activities, devote sufficient resources to identify opportunities that can be put in value and foster institutional cooperation and business to diversify and improve marketing channels.

The intention is to advance in enhancing tourism products and support concrete action and revitalization for marketing them, which help to boost tourism-related activities in the different municipalities and ensure their integration with development strategies sector.

It aims to identify "niches" or emerging markets, in order to promote the activity in them and encourage entrepreneurship and support for the development of promotional campaigns to attract investments and enhance the implementation of small businesses, as the Tourism is one of the economic engines running, despite the crisis, and is key in this region, such as job and business opportunity.

To carry out the qualitative analysis, we have developed a vast field work has been composed by a total of 24 personal interviews with both public and private actors, as well as two workshops in which they participated.

During the interviews and workshops were consulted different agents on tourism and employment situation in each municipality and on the job-creating potential opportunities through tourism.

It also has sought information on areas for improvement and those that should reinforce to improve attraction all CLE.

MAIN FINDINGS OF THE STUDY

Municipality of Murcia

Municipality with an extensive cultural heritage.

One of the main elements or tourist attractions available to the municipality of Murcia is its extensive cultural heritage as might be the Cathedral of Murcia, the Shrine of Our Lady of Fuensanta, the Monastery of San Jeronimo, the route of existing churches in the municipality or the Museum housed.

The equity offer is combined with leisure activities, shopping and dining varied.

The person who visits the city of Murcia has not only the ability to view their cultural heritage but also has complementary services so that has a range of higher quality.

Search for a greater number of investors and entrepreneurs to develop tourism in the municipality:

- Possibility to create tourist-oriented businesses such as souvenir shops, typical products, etc..

- Need to adapt the opening times for shops, restaurants, tourist information centers and cultural centers to tourists who visit the city (The museum is closed evenings)

- Develop schedules of the main city events well in advance so that they can promote.

- Possibility of non tourist but targeted visitors: different products, schedules and customer adapted differential.

- Existence of high potential traditional festivals (The Burial of the Sardine or the Virgin of Fuensanta) Requires "open" events to the city, so all visitors participating in it in one way or another.

Additionally it is possible to take greater advantage from a commercial standpoint and hospitality, activities such as markets, fairs, etc..

- Possibilities of attracting cultural groups from other municipalities, mainly schools and older, with a package that maximizes their spending in the city.

Continue defining plans that make a joint tourism action lines for a given period.

In recent years they have carried out different plans such as "Murcia 365" or the "Strategic Plan for sustainable, competitive and innovative tourism in the municipality of Murcia" in order to define common guidelines for empowerment tourism.

In this sense, the coming years will continue to be necessary to further develop these plans on which to set the operational and action plans related to the tourism sector of the city of Murcia.

Potential for improvement in the marketing of the city.

Township Sewer

The Ethnological Museum of the Huerta de Murcia is the main attraction of the town.

In the vicinity of the Museum of the Huerta de Murcia has discovered an Iberian Cerro great heritage value.
