Complaints of gender-based violence in the region are reduced compared to 2012 (25/06/2013)

The Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) today celebrated the National Day I 'Care of Victims of Domestic Violence'.

The aim of the conference, organized jointly by the UCAM and delegation of government in Murcia, is to address the resources, prevention and direct care to victims of gender violence.

At the opening of the symposium have intervened rector of International Relations and Communication, Paul Blesa, the Dean degree in Criminology, Jose Maria Caballero, and the Director General for the Prevention of Domestic Violence in the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia (CARM ), Cristina Garcia.

For his part, Secretary General of the Government Delegation in Murcia, José Gabriel Ruiz, gave the closing lecture during which he lectured on 'Human rights and gender violence'.

The Director General of Domestic Violence Prevention of the CARM, Cristina Garcia, said that "the ultimate goal is that all areas and institutions in a direct or indirect work with victims work in a coordinated manner so that the direct care and prevention policies we put in place with the victims are as effective as possible. "

Regarding complaints data on gender violence in the Region of Murcia, Cristina Garcia has detailed "data we again approach the 2011, year in which there were 247 complaints per quarter".

Similarly, Garcia noted that in the first quarter of 2012 there were 603 complaints, and in the first quarter of 2013 there were 393, which means less than 212 complaints last year same quarter.

For its part, the coordinator of the conference, Jose Maria Caballero, stressed that it is essential to "a change of mind on the victims, to be aware that they have to suffer abuse and should be reported from the first sample violent behavior. Definitely one of the main dangers is let it grow gradually violence. "

During the closing keynote address, the Secretary General of the Government Delegation in Murcia, José Gabriel Ruiz, has highlighted the relationship between violence against women, which is known as gender violence, with human rights; and stated that "any act of violence against women, in all its areas, carried out by gender, is an essential breach of human rights."
