IU-Greens criticizes a further cut in municipal libraries (12/06/2013)

The spokesman for IU-Greens in the city of Murcia, Esther Herguedas today criticized a further cut in the public library service for the months of July, August and September.

According Herguedas, the Council aims to close the municipal libraries in the evenings in July and August and Saturday mornings of the three summer months in order to save the cost of replacement staff.

He explained that this decision would directly related to the lack of foresight in making the contract with the company that runs the service, not having taken into account the increase in VAT from 18 to 21 percent.

"The City would claim that this rise be assumed by the company, something complicated by what concessions adjusted so that in the end, the consequences of mismanagement and lack of foresight, the paid workers who stop working and So this time charging and users who must do without much of the loan service and the use of the study rooms. "

The mayor considered "unacceptable" for municipal cuts focus on basic cultural aspects, such as libraries, "as he continues to waste advertising elsewhere as absolutely useless and superfluous".

He also believes that the council is giving different treatment to some contracts and others, and that while some suffer cuts, others are updated with the VAT and the CPI.
