More than a thousand people have participated in the classroom and the Senses Health Campaign in 2012-2013 (04/06/2013)

The classroom and the Senses Health 2012-2013 course comes to an end with the participation of over a thousand people.

This program is being developed since the launch of the classroom, and after the first full academic year 2012/2013, there is a memory of results.

At present, retrieve the Mediterranean diet in one of the biggest challenges for public health, since it is located as a prevention against major causes of death and disability.

Murcia has high rates of excess weight at all ages, and there are large deviations from the Mediterranean dietary pattern ..

The Hall of Health and the Senses is a space dedicated to health within classroom activities Gastronomic Culture Market Square Veronicas.

It aims to bring the world of the Mediterranean Diet, through local trade and gastronomy, to groups of greater nutritional risk children and youth, seniors and people with diseases that require dietary modification.

The proposal includes a series of activities to change dietary habits and consolidation related to the context of market proximity, fresh and seasonal products, so that, in a fun, participants come to the world of culture cuisine.

The main objectives of the program are: to bring food to the Mediterranean diet incorporating fresh seasonal daily table and learn to make healthy cuisine, and diverse economic, foster culinary heritage culture, and experience the difference value of the purchase in the market.

It applies a methodology for "learning by doing", including participatory development, acting on the knowledge and skills, on motivation, self-esteem and decision-making.

The activity takes place in three phases:

A first contact with the cultural environment of the squares of supplies and purchasing activities.

?

The second part takes place in the classroom and had direct contact with the preparation of the recipes, which always incorporate oily fish, vegetables and fruit.

?

The third and final part is the tasting menu and balanced healthy participants themselves have developed.

Among others, in this campaign has collaborated with the University of Murcia in the development of the project applied Sensocole, and Aid Association renal patients (ADAER) starting a novel nutritional training project aimed at people with chronic renal Murcia.

Between September 2012 and May 2013, there have been:

- 29 sessions of the workshop "Cooking with-sense: A children's market menu", aimed at children from the three primary cycles, with 750 participants.

- 6 workshops "Cooking without my parents: fast food, healthy and seasonal youth", carried out by 150 students of ESO.

- 3 workshops for seniors and parents.

- 3 workshops for people with food-related diseases: Excess weight and cardiovascular risk factors and patients with renal disease.

The assessment of activity by the teachers responsible for the classrooms that participated rises to a score of 9.4, highlighting the experiential and motivational aspects of the program.

Sensory evaluation of the recipes tasted gets very high marks in both primary and secondary (between 7.6 and 9.1 points).
