The University of Murcia prepares a Roadmap for Equality between women and men (31/05/2013)

The University of Murcia today introduced the media to the first equality plan of the institution, which has been prepared by the Unit for Equality between Women and Men, led by Professor of Civil Law Incarnation Serna.

Professor Serna has said the plan is both the result of the conviction as legislative requirements, "and involves strengthening policies that the University of Murcia and is doing to correct gender inequalities within the university."

The Plan, which has been involved for a commission of experts conduct comprising representatives of the faculty, administration and service staff and students, is structured around five areas with objectives and a series of actions for compliance.

The axes, trying to cover all areas of activity of the University, are equal university policy, teaching and research, participation and representation, access and career development and work-life balance family, work and personal.

"Equality between women and men has to be real for a university society more just and fair and also more modern," summarized the director of the unit.

The rector, José Antonio Cobacho, acknowledged that the University goes somewhat delayed in these areas compared to other Spanish universities, but has the firm will to develop, beyond the legal obligation, measures aimed at achieving equality between women and men.

Cobacho also spoke about the need to imbue the students of these policies and has ensured that the cuts and economic hardship are no excuse not to carry them out.

The presentation was held in convalescence, with the assistance of the Secretary General, Joaquín Lomba, and the manager, Pedro Galvez, among others.
