They start activities on the occasion of National Nutrition (28/05/2013)

On the occasion of the celebration of National Nutrition Day, which falls on Thursday, May 28, the municipal health services Murcia City Council have scheduled a series of activities including workshops, information, awareness and practical advice to promote healthy habits.

The health campaign undertaken seeks to avoid the major risk factors for chronic diseases more prevalent in our society (Cardiovascular Disease, Cancer and Diabetes), among which are those associated with poor nutrition: obesity, high cholesterol, low fruit and vegetables and hypertension, as well as lack of physical activity to fight obesity as one of the leading causes of premature death and avoidable, and communicating to the public that health status has much to do with individual responsibility for their own decisions.

These diseases can be prevented.

Up to 80% in the case of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, and more than a third in certain cancers could be prevented by eliminating shared risk factors, primarily unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, consumption of snuff, and harmful use of alcohol.

XII Edition

In this twelfth edition, with the slogan "Eat well for aging well", is intended to highlight the importance of carrying out, for life, some good eating habits and lifestyle.

Thanks to the invaluable assistance of Mercamurcia be distributed each day of campaigning about 150 kilos of fresh fruit.

The activities will be carried out by health professionals with specific training in the field (nutritionists, food technologists, nurses) according to the following schedule:

Tuesday 28 May:

Health Workshop and the Senses in the Cultural Hall Gastronomic Veronicas Market Square: with the collaboration of Dr. Juan Madrid Conesa, will be a workshop for preparing food with healthy recipes to enhance the social and cultural value of food.

Partners attend Social Centres for the Elderly of Fame and San Andrés and the general public.

Tasting of dishes and fruit distribution provided by Mercamurcia.

X Participation in the Healthy Habits Week General Hospital Universitario Virgen de la Arrixaca.

Booth attended by technicians of the Department to inform, make recommendations and personalized service, dissemination of information materials: brochures, guides, posters, etc..

Sharing provided by Mercamurcia fruit.

Wednesday 29 May:

Training workshops for over community centers

As in previous years, have been launched, in parallel, training and awareness activities in coordination with the Senior Section of Social Welfare Service.

Workshops are developed in the following Social Centres for the Elderly:

Garres: Thursday May 23, at 18:30 h.

Cabeza de Torres: Thursday May 23, at 17:30 h.

San Juan - Santa Eulalia: Tuesday May 28, at 18:00 h.

San Anton: Wednesday May 29, at 18:00 h.

Torreagüera: Wednesday May 29, at 18:00 h.

El Palmar: Thursday May 30, at 18:00 h.

Llano de Brujas: Wednesday June 5, at 18:00.
