The most advanced university technology gathers in Murcia (16/05/2013)

Representatives 65 universities from 9 countries are meeting today and tomorrow at the University of Murcia, in the First International Congress of University Smart Card (TUI), which aims to analyze international experiences in the use of this credential and share the vision of the five observatories studying the card, two in Brazil (UNISINOS universities and Federal Fluminense), one in Mexico (Monterrey Institute of Technology), and two in Spain, at the Universities of Cantabria and Murcia.

The congress is organized precisely by the TUI International Observatory located at the University of Murcia, and enjoys the patronage of Banco Santander, through its Santander Universities Global Division.

The inauguration, chaired by José Antonio Cobacho, rector of the University of Murcia, accompanied by Vicente Prior, global director of Products and Channels Santander Universities Global Division of Banco Santander, Alfredo Albaizar, director of Santander Universities Spain, has given way at various conferences, workshops and panel discussions on the impact of the TUI in the university system, advances since its introduction-the first universities tested this technology in 1996 -, and future trends, both in regard to the management , as new applications, such as allowing you to enjoy the TUI on mobile services.

In addition, the universities participating in the conference to share their best practices and experiences in relation to the University Smart Card, whose advanced technology to adapt its functionality to each community college.

Each of these issues its TUI universities with the support of Banco Santander, through Santander Universities.

The bank has extensive experience in providing this service, which uses advanced technology to adapt the functionality to the university community and, at present, more than 6.2 million students from over 260 universities use a card developed by the bank in collaboration with the academic institution.

Prize for the most original ideas

This day will conclude with the delivery, at 18:20 pm, the awards of "TUI Ideas Contest", organized by the International Observatory of the University Smart Card and Banco Santander, through Santander Universities.

The purpose of this competition, open to students in degree programs and graduate of the University of Murcia, is to find new uses for this card, using both students and administrative and service staff of universities.

The award will be decided based on originality, creativity, feasibility and utility of the ideas presented, and is endowed with 1,000 euros in aid to study for the winning idea, and two consolation prizes of 400 euros.

Tomorrow, Friday, is also scheduled presentation of the first prizes "GoldTUI, USC 2014 Project Awards", which are intended to highlight the importance of innovative projects related to the University Smart Card carried out in universities.

As in the case of "TUI Ideas Contest", it announces the TUI International Observatory of the University of Murcia and Banco Santander.

The contest "GoldTUI, USC project Awards 2014" award the most innovative projects with greater impact on the university community including exhibits any of the more than 260 universities that the TUI issued jointly with Banco Santander.

These projects started after September 2012 and to be completed by May 2014, so that all three finalists will be presented at the Second International Congress of the TUI.

International Observatory TUI

The First International Congress of TUI has been organized by the TUI International Observatory of the University of Murcia, created in December 2012 by initiative of the university with the collaboration of Banco Santander, through Santander Universities.

This is one of the first activities of the observatory, which was created to investigate new uses and advanced chip technology applicable to university settings, and was created with the aim of becoming a reference center in eGovernment solutions based on certificates on smart card.

Banco Santander's commitment to the University of Murcia in this project of the International Observatory University Smart Card is part of the agreement signed between the two institutions in June 2012, and is a 280,000 funding per year for technological activities related to TUI.

A relationship that goes back to 1997
