International Solidarity wins the fourth edition of the "Aguas de Murcia Solidarity" (13/05/2013)

The project to improve the quality of life of Afro-Colombian communities affected by the armed conflict in the department of Cauca, Colombia ", has been chosen as the winner of Contest IV" Aguas de Murcia Solidarity "organized by the municipal waters Murcia, in collaboration with the departments of Environment and Equality, who run Adela Martinez-Cache and Alicia Barquero.

The purpose of this contest, which celebrates its fourth edition and is only to assist in providing access to goods and services essential to life, such as the availability of drinking water and sanitation services in countries of the world of developing.

Safe drinking water and sanitation facilities is a prerequisite to enjoy minimum levels of health and thus contribute to poverty reduction.

It is also a proven fact that investments in the water sector and sanitation generate high returns: every euro invested in the sector, can generate eight euros in cost savings and increased productivity.

The project has won will be held in conjunction with an entity or counterparty of the beneficiary country, in this case with Colombia.

The prize is 10,000 euros.

The International Solidarity project is part of a comprehensive intervention that the association has been developing in the neighborhood of La Paz since 2011, first phase: community empowerment and productive projects that are being implemented with funding from the Spanish Agency International Cooperation and Development, AECID.

Project completion is expected this.

The Municipality of The Strait has completed construction of the treatment plant sewage-WWTP-up to 450 families leaving the junction boxes for 120 families, however, have only been able to connect 45 families and the remaining 75 do the dumping to septic tanks and / or open field.

Therefore, it is necessary to increase the coverage of the families who benefit from the sewer, by building residential connections, integrated construction and / or better training restrooms and maintenance of water and sanitation systems, and in good hygiene.
