Traffic and the City come together to encourage pedestrians to walk more and use the car less (13/05/2013)

Walking is one of the simplest and most effective ways to stay healthy and avoid car journeys.

Thus, on the occasion of the celebration of World Breastfeeding Week Road Safety, which has chosen theme pedestrian safety, the Traffic Department and the city of Murcia have been proposed to promote the habit of walking more and use less private vehicles.

The provincial traffic chief, Virginia Sherry, and the Town Traffic and Transportation, Javier Iniesta, have made this morning on a walking tour between the City and Traffic units as symbolic path within this campaign.

Traffic Councilman has also stressed the importance of public transport use in a well connected town like ours, not to mention that many of these paths can be made simply walking.

Remember that Murcia is a city in which the walk is easy, so if you can not go hiking natural spaces, you can also take a tour of the city with the urban route 'Walk 10,000 steps', Circular leaving and comes to the Square of Spain, lasting two hours and 7 km long

This route is signposted with information boards.

The trail, called SL-MU 10, it can go in 10,000 steps: the recommended distance you should walk daily to be physically fit and is equivalent to about seven kilometers.

The itinerary SL-MU 10 runs for gardens and or renovated pedestrian streets of the city and its route, starting and finishing in the square of Spain and a height of 25 meters, you can see 27 monuments of the city.

In designing these links have been taken into account concerning traffic areas, such as gardens, large sidewalks or pedestrian streets, and buildings, plazas and cultural environments and spaces that best reflect the wealth of the neighborhoods.

Through the new campaign for the DGT, the City wants to continue increasing access to walk to the center of Murcia and promote walking as a mode displacements efficient mobility and alternative

to perform on short journeys.

It also is promoting the reduction of speed on some urban roads 30 km / h.
