An exhibition highlights the work of the interpreters of Arab and Berber in the Spanish Protectorate in Morocco (09/05/2013)

Tomorrow Friday at 10 am in the Senate opens the Faculty of Law of the University of Murcia the exhibition "Truchimanes, Berber and Arabic interpreters during the Spanish Protectorate in Morocco".

The exhibition is part of the International Festival of Tolerance Murcia Three Cultures, Campus Mare Nostrum, and will run until May 20 next day.

The exhibition is curated by Juan Pablo Arias, Fair and Dominic Manuel Campillo, and collaboration with the Communication Service of the University of Murcia.

The term truchimán was appointed to the elite of translators and interpreters of the powerful Ottoman Empire administration, key actors in trade relations, and diplomatic war between East and West.

The exhibition aims to bring the public to which, like those predecessors in office were the truchimanes for Spain: the members of the apparatus of translation and interpretation from Arabic and Berber Spanish Protectorate in Morocco.

From the anonymity played an indispensable role.

Through period documents and photographs, presents an overview on different aspects such successive translation and interpretation of the area including its origin and composition, with special attention to some of its leading figures-, training received, tasks, and destinations entrusted.

The exhibition spans the history from 1912-1975, end of Spanish colonial adventure in the neighboring continent.
