The UCAM create a European Centre of Culture Sephardic (07/05/2013)

The Catholic University of Murcia UCAM and the Juan de Borbon Spain-Israel have closed this afternoon on the campus of the university Sephardic Cultural Week.

Catholic Church and Judaism Relations

Cardinal Antonio Cañizares has lectured on the relationship between the Catholic Church and Judaism, recalling in particular the actions of John Paul II and Benedict XVI to approach the Jewish community.

Cardinal Cañizares stressed that "the writings of the people of Israel are the basis of all that we Catholics" and that "this town has its origin in the faith of Abraham who is the father of our faith", so "Our roots are common."

Finally, the cardinal recalled the words of John Paul II who said that even "much to do" and that "we must know much more and better."

In this sense, Canizares has indicated that the Sephardic Cultural Week organized by UCAM contributes to this mutual understanding between Catholics and Jews.

The Cardinal concluded by noting that both religions must walk "Decalogue showing God as the great way for all men to a new humanity in which God is recognized and Man is resurrected and loved".

He has also lectured on the relationship Católia Church and Judaism Rabbi David Rosen, International Director of Interreligious Affairs of the American Jewish Committee and Director of the Heilbrunn Institute for Interreligious Understanding, said that Pope John XXIII was the pioneer of the transformation of relations between Jews and Catholics and that they have advanced to the pontificates of John Paul II and Benedict XVI.

The first is referred to Jews as "elder brothers of the Church" and Benedict XVI spoke even "fatherhood Hebrew".

Rabbi has highlighted the existing good relations between the Jewish community and the Catholic Church and thanked the UCAM their efforts to be an open door for dialogue between the two religions.
