The Socialist Group in plenary ask free public transport for the unemployed and school canteens remain open in summer (22/04/2013)

The Socialist Group today announced at a press conference two motions that will take the next plenary with proposals to help those who are faring worse with the economic crisis.

It is, on the one hand, the creation of a Solidarity Bonobús that would allow the unemployed registered in the municipality of Murcia use public transport for free, and for another, that school canteens remain open during the summer holidays.

Socialist Party councilor, Pedro López, explained the proposal Bonobús Solidario, already implemented in other cities like Seville, which would reduce the cost of the unemployed in Murcia when traveling by bus or tram to the employment offices, to attend training courses or to make arrangements.

Lopez recalled that the municipality has 46,000 unemployed and PSOE proposal would help people who benefit from unemployment benefits, basic income social integration of social wages or no income directly.

Meanwhile, Councilwoman Susan Hernandez pose in another motion that the City, in collaboration with the Autonomous Community, set up a system to keep open during the summer school canteens to ensure that children have a healthy and balanced in these months.

Hernandez recalled that UNICEF reports warn that children are who are suffering more and crisis in Murcia we have a rate of poverty or social exclusion by 33.6%, which forces us to take urgent action.

The PSOE mayor said that more and more the educational community testimonies attesting to the increase of students come to school without even having breakfast due to the economic difficulties of their family environments.

"We fear that this situation will worsen with the arrival of summer, and we hope that the city of Murcia is sensitive and follow the example of the Canaries, approving this social justice initiative," said Susana Hernandez.
