Called the Novel Prize XVIII Vargas Llosa (22/03/2013)

The award was convened Murcia University, Social Work and Chair Cajamediterráneo Vargas Llosa, and is endowed with 12,000 euros

The University of Murcia, Social Work and Chair Cajamediterráneo Vargas Llosa have opened within the call to participate in the XVIII Vargas Llosa Novel Prize.

The basis of this event are available on the websites of the University of Murcia (www.umu.es / culture) of the Social Work Cajamediterráneo (http://obscajamediterraneo.wordpress.com) and Vargas Llosa Chair (http://www.catedravargasllosa.es).

The prize is worth 12,000 euros.

In the presentation to the media, on the morning of today Friday, March 22, in the building of convalescence, was attended by President of the University of Murcia José Antonio Cobacho, the Managing Director of Caja Mediterráneo, Alfonso Rodriguez Rabadán; Lifante Manuel Bravo, Director General of the Foundation Virtual Library Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, Antonio Rubira Riquelme, Murcia Regional Manager of Caja Mediterráneo, the University Extension vicerrectoras eGovernment and the University of Murcia, and Coordination and Communication, Mercedes Farias Batlle y M ª Ángeles Esteban Abad respectively, and Francis Florit Durán, Jury President and Professor, Department of Spanish Literature, Literary Theory and Comparative Literature at the University of Murcia and the Professor This juror department and José María Pozuelo Yvancos.

Jury President, Florit Durán, stressed the long history of the award and the fact that it is a prize "bespoken", which highlighted a few months ago in the presentation of his book, Mark Eymar winning the latest edition.

Manuel Bravo, Director General of the Foundation Virtual Library Miguel de Cervantes described the award as "an example of collaboration between institutions", while Alfonso Rodriguez referred to the category of the jury, "where a large part of the prestige of the award."

Meanwhile, the rector Mercedes Farias, described the award as "a cluster consisting of institutions for the promotion of culture"

Finally, the Rector of the University of Murcia, José Antonio Cobacho, expressed satisfaction with having a "literary award category which honors us all."

When literary prize can attend all Spanish or foreign authors to submit works written in Castilian.

The works, which must be unpublished and not winning, can be submitted until July 22, 2013 at the Rector of the University of Murcia.

The decision will be announced in Murcia during the month of November 2013.

Each author may submit one work.

The novels, which should have an extension of at least 150 pages, will be presented to contest under pseudonym, accompanied closed escrow or inside which shall include duly completed entry form, which is available on the websites of Work Social Cajamediterráneo, Chair University of Murcia and Vargas Llosa.

The three organizing institutions have made this one of the literary prize drawing power of larger international competitions among Spanish language novel.

Proof of this is that last year received 150 original 14 countries, representing an increase of 30 percent over the previous edition.

The initiative to convene a Novel Prize with Vargas Llosa's name arose in 1995, when the University of Murcia decided to appoint honorary Doctor Mario Vargas Llosa, becoming the first Spanish university to distinguish the author of 'The Feast of the Goat' with this appointment.

That year the University Social Work Cajamediterráneo proposed to be the sponsor of the prize.
