The doctor honoris causa of the University of Murcia Rafael Carmena defends contact with patients facing technology (21/03/2013)

Professor Rafael Carmena today defended the need to keep in touch with patients, to the "spectacular technological development applied to Medicine", during a ceremony in which he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Murcia.

For this new honorary doctor, "we should avoid the technology, which is a must, interfere with the other aspect of our profession, which is the human contact with the sick", so has appealed to combine the two aspects.

In his inaugural address, Carmena, who was a professor at the University of Valencia until his retirement in 2010, and previously, of the University of Murcia, has said that "I am concerned that young intelligent, coming to school with a predisposition admirable and authentic clinical vocation, mold their expectations with increasingly ambitious goals. "

This professor has called teamwork to highlight that "future doctors must quickly grasp the need for interdisciplinary collaboration, linking basic research with clinical practice."

Neither has forgotten to note that "physicians need to know to convey empathy with the sufferer, inspiring confidence and optimism, the doctor's personality, today as yesterday, still healing abilities."

At another point in his speech has rejected what he called "a fragmented care" for her to understand that "the patient does not really know who your doctor, who is responsible to take care and make decisions."
