A doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Murcia has highlighted the important role that the waters of the Tajo-Segura played in transforming dry land into irrigated land, but added that, in return, has generated a "dangerous" dependence on them.
This research, conducted by José Antonio López Fernández, analyzed especially for the Shire River Mula, where these resources have helped Transfer transforming rainfed areas and also to build or renovate traditional irrigation .
"On the other hand, says the thesis has created a dangerous dependence on these resources, especially in periods of drought."
The author calls for rural development actions to diversify economic activities and to promote local development, "taking advantage of endogenous resources, as its varied heritage."
The dissertation, which has been rated as suitable cum laude, was conducted by Professor José María Gómez Gil Meseguer Espin and Incarnation.
