The maintenance of parks and gardens are aimed at sustainable mobility (07/03/2013)

The incorporation of hybrid, electric and gas for the conservation of green areas can save 51,000 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere and 42,000 liters of fuel a year.

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, this morning the fleet of 105 vehicles with environmentally responsible to be employed in the service of parks and gardens.

The new contract for maintenance and upkeep of green spaces in neighborhoods and districts is characterized by a sense of environmental responsibility in all its aspects, including the fleet of vehicles dedicated to this service.

Thus, for the first time, cars, vans, trucks and motorcycles used in this contract fully conform to the standards of sustainable mobility.

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, accompanied by the Councillor for the Environment, Adela Martinez-grip, this morning the new fleet of 105 vehicles that will be used for this purpose by the company STV, providing this service since early this year.

The addition of these vehicles with environmentally responsible will annually save 51,500 of CO2 to the atmosphere, the main cause of the greenhouse effect, and 41,760 liters of fossil fuels.

It will promote a decrease in noise with a 100% electrical and 50% with the gas, while a 100% will reduce the emission of particles, eliminating the largest source of respiratory problems in cities .

Finally, is deleted NOX to the atmosphere and 70% with gas vehicles, the main cause of acid rain.

Maintenance of parks and gardens, which in recent years had paid special attention to implement sustainability criteria and energy efficiency, now goes a step further with the use of hybrid vehicles, electric and LPG.

In total, Murcia has 2.4 million square meters of green areas and 45,000 trees in alignment.

Specifically, will serve 4 Toyota Auris Hybrid, 4 Renault Twizy electric, 30 electric Piaggio Porter, 30 Piaggio Porter electric liquefied gas, liquefied gas 8 Piaggio, 18 Volkswagen Caddy vans liquefied gas, 7 trucks Mercedes Sprinter and liquefied gas 4 SmartWork electric tricycles.

Municipal fleet greener

Long ago the City Council decided the city guide towards a model of sustainable development, following the relevant guidelines contained in the Local Strategy to Combat Climate Change, and especially the reduction of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

Murcia, which stood at the head of the Spanish municipalities with the highest number of electric and hybrid vehicles for municipal use, reinforces this commitment now with the addition of maintenance of green areas to sustainable urban mobility.

This is not the first municipal service that adopts this measure of respect for the environment.

The fleet of "green vehicles"-hybrid, electric or LPG-run for months in street cleaning and waste collection or the entire fleet of public transport buses.

The official City cars, those for general services, ALEM or attached to using the Mayor, are also cars that meet the guidelines of sustainable mobility.

The electric vehicle aims to become the main alternative to the challenges posed by climate change and the scarcity of fossil fuels.

Currently, the traditional transport accounts for 28% of global energy consumption and 34% of CO2 emissions, hence the importance of fostering global solutions that reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
