The San Antonio Catholic University of Murcia analyzes Christmas spending habits of Murcia (19/12/2012)

It is clear from research on consumer habits in Murcia by experts from the Department of Administration and Management of the UCAM

"The 57.4% of Murcia reduce their spending on holiday shopping during Christmas 2012, representing a reduction in consumption, compared to that recorded during the 2011 holiday season. Only 8% of the population declares openly Murcia intend to increase their spending during this period, compared to last year. "

These are some of the conclusions reached by a study of Murcia holiday shopping by teachers, and researchers of the Department of Business Administration of the UCAM, Gonzalo Wandosell, Concepción Parra, Thomas Schmidt, and Mercedes Carmona, from surveys 460 people, 60% living in Murcia, and the rest in adjacent municipalities.

The study was carried out simultaneously in Germany, by the prestigious Hochschule für University Oekonomie & Management (FOM), the UCAM partner institution.

The experts behind the study and teaching of the Catholic University San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM), Gonzalo Wandosell, Concepción Parra, Thomas Schmidt and Mercedes Carmona, specified in its conclusions that the members of the group of retirees and pensioners with partners and children were home are the biggest spenders on gifts during this time (about 550 euros on average per person), followed by housewives and workers with partner and children at home (500 euros on average per person).

At the other extreme are students and unemployed, spend less, averaging between 220 and 200 euros per person.

Regarding the types of preferred gifts during the holiday season, experts explain that respondents tend to opt for clothes, cosmetics and toys, acquired over 95% of cases, in malls.

From the UCAM is weighted positively conducting this study in Germany, by the FOM University, and explains that this research will enable the comparison of results between the two countries, and analyze the differences between the buying habits of Spanish and Germans.
