IU-Greens prefer Murcia PP considers charity to solidarity (30/11/2012)

The IU-Greens spokesman in the city of Murcia, Esther Herguedas, today considered "ridiculous, unfortunate and unsupportive" the development cooperation policy of the consistory, and ensured that the PP "preferred charity to solidarity, something very own traditional right ".

Herguedas noted that "even in times when money was available, Murcia City Hall opted for policies of solidarity with the Third World, but in the current situation has simply given up."

In his opinion, the Cooperation Council meeting that was held today "reveals the decay of a body that has lost all meaning since neither has decision-making powers, and is representative of the development cooperation of the municipality, or fund projects"

"The only reason for its maintenance, the mayor added-IU-Greens-seems to be justifying the existence of tasks for which the City has released a councilor".

In this sense, Herguedas recalled that originally this council was created as an organ of participation of non-governmental organizations engaged in development cooperation, but "was emptied of content and of any capacity in decision-making."

This led, in his view, "the abandonment of that of the representatives of the NGO Coordinator's Murcia, made up of 25 organizations that were a guarantee as to the use of these funds for their ethics, cleanliness and clarity in its operation."

"After this operation the City had only reduce the funds, and now only five organizations split the 18,000 euros now allocating consistory for this purpose, which is, ultimately, a handout."
