House takes the prize awarded to the City by the quality control of the menus of schools, preschools and home-delivered meals for older (27/11/2012)

He has received the distinction Naos Strategy for the Comprehensive Plan to Promote Healthy Eating and Physical Activity.

The work of the Municipal Health Service ensures that lends a healthy diet in collective food services managed by the City.

The plan aims to improve population health through healthy eating and physical activity.

Quality control of menus and diets that oversees the City Council through the Municipal Health Service is an essential tool to ensure adequate health care.

Its usefulness and effectiveness has been recognized by Naos Strategy Award in the category "Promoting healthy eating in the family and community" granted by the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition, Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality.

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, accompanied by the Councillor for Social Welfare and Health, María del Carmen Pelegrin, the award was presented today in a ceremony presided over by the Minister Ana Mato.

Murcia City Council acceded in 2005 to the National Strategy NAOS (Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Prevention), which aims to raise awareness of the problem that obesity poses to the health and promote all initiatives that contribute to get citizens, especially children and youth, adopt healthy lifestyles, mainly through healthy eating and regular physical activity practice.

The Plan to Promote Healthy Eating and Physical Activity, which develops the Municipal Health Services, pays particular attention to nutritional risk groups such as children and young people and the elderly and dependent.

Its purpose is to improve the health of people locally leading the activities in the field of healthy eating and physical activity.

In collaboration with the University of Murcia, through the Department of Food Technology, Nutrition and Food Science, the program can apply scientific research to monitor and evaluate menus managed by the city of Murcia in school canteens, nurseries, centers social services, recreational camps, meals on wheels service and other social caterers.

This will set the quality requirements and develop evaluation indicators to provide menus, and the conditions to be met by companies to provide a safe service and meals prepared in accordance with the characteristics of a healthy diet and acceptable.

The work includes a sensory analysis of menus since they claim not only that meals meet the Mediterranean diet, but also meets parameters of texture, size, smell, color and taste.

The Plan to Promote Healthy Eating and Physical Activity unfolds through social centers for the elderly, women, education, municipal, health (through the Patient School program), plus meals and soup kitchens address.
