The University of Murcia, through its Results Transfer Office (TTO), has launched a project to support the creation and consolidation of technology companies arising from knowledge generated in universities and other centers research.
To accomplish this goal, researchers will support companies responsible for managing both the same, and financially, by providing seed capital fund.
The fund, called 2Up Seed Capital, has been established with private capital from different companies in Murcia and is promoted by the Economic Circle of the Region.
The President's Circle, Jesus Pacheco, said during the presentation of the project, which was held at the headquarters of the Senate, his association (composed of senior staff and management of major regional companies) is committed to a model change economic progress in two lines: on the one hand, encouraging companies in technology transfer processes and, secondly, to support the start-ups, particularly the technological base.
In this way, the Circle of Economics, he added, has been found in the University of Murcia a strategic partner, an idea that has been endorsed by the TTO director, Professor Antonio Montes, who stressed that this public-private financial support for technology-based companies have little precedent nationwide.
In his speech, the president, José Antonio Cobacho, spoke of the concern in the Spanish Rectors' Conference about the high rates of unemployment among university and the need to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit in young people.
The chancellor has also had words of appreciation for the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, which has funded the project.
The presentation ceremony was attended also the CEO of Seed Capital 2UP, Antonio Ballester Lopez and vice president of the Circle of Economy, Bruno Thierry Dureux.
