Wine tastings and cheese to celebrate the arrival of Beaujolais Nouveau (16/11/2012)

The dairy author 'The Milkmaid of Bordeaux' offered tastings of wine and cheese to celebrate yesterday Beaujolais Nouveau Day.

It is a festival which is celebrated annually on the third Thursday of November to commemorate the arrival of the first international markets of France wine season.

Thus, 'The Milkmaid of Bordeaux' offered a tasting of selected French cheeses and dozens of bottles uncorked this popular young wine.

The Beaujolais Nouveau is the most popular young French wine, fermented for just a few weeks and will be released to international markets in the early hours of 14 to 15 November.

This is known as the "Beaujolais Day", or "Beaujolais Nouveau Day".

This young wine is made from grapes gamay noir à jus blanc, better known as gamay.

The grapes must come from the Beaujolais AOC, excluding grapes designations "cru" Beaujolais.

By law, all grapes are picked by hand region.

This occurs because the Beaujolais is made using carbonic maceration, whole berry fermentation which emphasizes fruit flavors without extracting bitter tannins from the grape skins.
