Murcia City Council, through MurciaEscultura program and the Department of Culture, has promoted the rehabilitation of the old bust in memory of poet Ricardo Sánchez Madrigal, an outstanding work of the great sculptor José Plans which is located opposite the Palace of Almudí.

Sánchez Madrigal, an engineer, was born in Murcia in 1845 and died in 1925.

He enjoyed great fame in the city by the newspaper's management and Truth for outstanding creative work, especially for its production of poems and plays.

At his death, the city of Murcia prompted a popular gathering to honor his memory with a bust, which eventually carved the great sculptor José Plans Murcia.

The bust was inaugurated during the Feria de Murcia, 1926.

Over the past decades 9, the work has suffered several attacks, among which are two decapitation.

The restoration of the monument has allowed back all the splendor that was, cracks consolidate and reaffirm its base, which had numerous fractures.
