Heritage expert at the University of Havana (Cuba), Jose Vazquez, delivered today at the conference UCAM `A management model of Historical and Cultural Heritage: The Case of Old Havana '
"It is people, not buildings who give life to the cities", as declared this morning in the hall of San Antonio Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM), José Vázquez, biologist, Heritage expert and director International Relations College of San Geronimo of Havana School of the University of Havana (Cuba) under the Office of the Historian of Havana, Jose Vazquez.
Vazquez has pronounced the conference `A management model and Cultural Heritage: The Case of Old Havana ', promoted by the Department of Humanities and Religious of the UCAM.
Notably, Jose Vazquez, has been appointed Extraordinary Professor of Biological Anthropology, by UCAM.
Jose Vazquez in his speech explained the process of regeneration, rehabilitation and physical restoration, architectural and human emblematic of Habana Vieja, foundational area of ​​Havana, with nearly 500 years old, deeply damaged due to historical reasons, managed through the Office of the Historian of Havana, through an effective cash management model, pioneering and unique in the world, and applicable to many other countries.
Vazquez, who has described Havana as one of the most eclectic Caribbean capital, highlighted the role of culture as the core of local development, has stressed the importance to protect and rehabilitate historical heritage, through the application of a comprehensive plan to eradicate social exclusion, the overcrowding and human isolation, and has claimed the role of human beings as a fundamental part of urban development.
"The life of cities comes from the people, not the buildings. Through the intervention of the people in the urban development, the cities are able to recover your soul, your spirit," he assured.
