A thesis from the University of Murcia stands at 94.3% survival rate of patients undergoing surgery for congenital heart disease (05/10/2012)

The doctoral dissertation at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Murcia by Sara Roldan Ramos has uncovered that the survival rate of patients undergoing surgery for congenital heart disease in hospitals of Murcia Health Service stood at 94.3 per percent.

This research, which have led teachers Arribas José María and Juan Antonio Ruipérez A total of 201 procedures performed in 193 patients suffering from this disease over ten years.

The dissertation shows that adults with congenital heart disease are an important group of patients in the quota of cardiovascular surgery and atrial septal pathology was most common at 31 percent.

The study also notes that "these heart no longer exclusively a disease child", registering an average age of 35 years among surgically.
