Chamber participates in the summit of the councils of Europe (26/09/2012)

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, attended this afternoon at the XXV Cadiz Assembly Council of Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), whose inauguration was chaired by HRH the Prince of Asturias.

The meeting convenes European local and regional elected (mayors, regional governors) and subject matter experts to address issues of common interest, especially economic and social, for citizens and the basic structures of power grouped under the theme 'Decentralization , Democracy and Development.

This XXV Assembly is called to be part of meeting for the sharing of problems, defining strategies, exchange of experiences and ideas and setting guidelines at European level to tackle, from government and local and regional organizations, to situations generated by the crisis and to respond to the growing needs of citizens.

The Assembly will end on Friday with the drafting of a final outcome document, the "Declaration of Cadiz", which is called to set guidelines for the future of Europe in an international context marked by the crisis.

In Cádiz includes representatives from Spain, France, UK, Italy, Germany, Austria, Turkey, Ukraine, Macedonia, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Poland, Iceland, Bulgaria, Serbia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia, Bosnia, Sweden, Norway, Portugal, Finland, Romania, Denmark, Moldova, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic.

There is also representation of America (Uruguay, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica), Asia (Japan and China) and Africa (Ivory Coast, Mali, Uganda and Kenya).

The Council of European Municipalities and Regions of Europe is an organization created in 1951 by European mayors and today is the largest organization of associations of local and regional governments on the continent.

What are the greatest fifty associations of municipalities in forty countries, representing more than 100,000 local and regional authorities, and its President is the Mayor of Stuttgart (Germany), Wolfgang Schuster.

Among its objectives are the development of the European spirit based on local autonomy, the participation of local governments in the European Union policies and representation of local administrations to European institutions.

On the occasion of the Assembly this morning the Governing Board of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), which is a member of the Mayor of Murcia, Cadiz held its regular meeting, chaired by Mayor of Santander , Iñigo de la Serna.
