Murcia chair the Red Civitas (26/09/2012)

Murcia has been chosen to chair the Red Civitas.

The members of this body, meeting in the European Forum X Civitas in Vitoria, proceeded yesterday afternoon to vote at the meeting of the Political Committee of the local CIVITAS network, which brings together Spain and Portugal.

It has been chosen to represent Spain Murcia and Funchal to represent Portugal for two years.

The Vice Presidents will hold the city of Santander and the Portuguese side Porto.

This forum has met Vitoria Civitas over 450 experts from 32 European countries are pooling their experiences during three days in sustainable mobility.

The Red Civitas Spain and Portugal, a European project that began three years ago, brings together more than thirty Spanish and Portuguese cities, including some as Madrid, Lisbon, Barcelona, ​​Bilbao, Coimbra, Seville and Malaga, in addition to those now occupy the presidency and vice-presidency, for example.

During his three years of the Network has successfully held three forums (in Burgos, Coimbra and Murcia) and numerous meetings on specific topics on sustainable urban mobility.

In addition, the Network members signed the "Agreement of Murcia" last May on electric urban mobility.

Among the commitments was fixed next meeting on 8 October in the city of Madrid to discuss issues related to Intelligent Transportation Systems, with the invitation to three leading companies, and the organization of the next Forum in the city of Santander, which will focus on Smart Cities and mobility.

Note that, in addition to government, The network involves other organizations (universities, transportation authorities, research institutes, private companies ...) interested in sustainable mobility.
