Mayor Campaign Chamber presents 'One in five' for you child sexual abuse prevention (17/09/2012)

The PAI project for children and adolescents is developed in 33 neighborhoods and districts |

The Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara, this morning the information campaign and sensibilizadión One in five, promoted by the Council of Europe, to prevent and report sexual abuse situations.

The event was attended Maria del Carmen Pelegrin, Executive Councillor for Social Welfare and Health, Elda Moreno, Special Adviser on children's issues, Office of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, and Juana Lopez Calero, VP FAPMI-Federation of Associations for Child Abuse Prevention Association President AMAIM-Murciana support abused children.

In order to support this campaign, the city of Murcia, a proposal AMAIM Association agreed to work together on their diffusion in the Municipality of Murcia.

To this end they agreed to a series of actions that would allow, in a practical and concrete, incorporating the contents of the campaign in the PAI project (project activities with children and adolescents) that develops in 33 neighborhoods and districts, which aims provide alternative leisure time having a playful and educational and enable minors establish positive relationships, healthy habits and role spaces and child participation.

Have been developed to date four actions:

1.

Training seminar on child sexual abuse prevention targeting monitors project activities with children and adolescents (PAI).

In December 2011 there were two 6-hour training sessions in which 34 monitors project activities with children and adolescents.

The content of the sessions was geared to meet the campaign materials "One in Five" and work the tutorial provided by the campaign as a tool for understanding and support for the monitors to prevent and report sexual abuse cases.

2.

Campaign "One in Five" in the PAI.

This campaign has been developed by the instructors who have participated in the training sessions.

There have been on the same schedule of PAI, outside school hours in a total of 23 PAI during April and May 2012.

Has been developed in particular:

- 9 districts or districts that correspond to the territorial jurisdiction of the Municipal Center of Social Services South Murcia (Lobosillo, Valladolises, Sucina, Avileses, Patiño, Sangonera La Seca, Stables, Corner Sangonera Villanueva and the Green)

- 5 districts or districts that correspond to the territorial demarcation of Ciudad de Murcia (San Andres, La Arboleja, La Paz and in two schools of St. James the Great).

- 9 districts or districts that correspond to the territorial demarcation of North Murcia (Nonduermas, Strut, Guadalupe, La Nora, Javalí Viejo, Cobatillas, the dryland of El Raal, Santa Cruz and Bacons Bridge)

Parents briefings.

Prior to these actions, from the municipal social services were informed parents by letter, which was to develop this campaign within the activities taking place in the PAI.

A total of 14 sessions.

Questionnaires.

In order to assess the development of the campaign was developed an evaluation questionnaire with a series of indicators that includes the assessment of the monitors on the development of this campaign, the main findings can be summarized as:

- Positive Rating from work this season.

- The project develops PAI in a total of 33 neighborhoods and districts, this campaign has worked in 23 countries involving 70% of the children who participated in this project.

- It has expanded the dissemination of the campaign not only children but parents and schools where they develop some of the PAI.

- Greater acceptance by parents to be informed and to supply tools to talk to their children from sexual abuse in a simple and clear.

- Good working environment and motivation for the structure of the workshop format sessions in a dynamic and participatory.

- Identify situations of abuse (signals annoying and uncomfortable)

- What to do and how to react to a situation that bothers them and whom to contact for help.

Lines of cooperation envisaged:

Following a positive assessment of the experience in the development of the campaign and given the coincidence of the same goals with the program outlined in the Child and Adolescent Social Services 2012-2015, approved by the Governing Board in March The City Council has decided to expand and extend the training to other professionals and key agents directly related to the care of children and adolescents in the prevention, detection and action in cases of child sexual abuse.

Coming from that and collaboration with FAPMI, agreement was reached to formalize the accession of the City of Murcia to the campaign "one in five".

The actions that are already planned for development, beyond which can be programmed from the signing of the protocol of the City of Murcia this campaign are:

1. - A line of internal work to spread this campaign between social services professionals related to childcare, through one or two training sessions to be included in the training plan of the Department.

2. - The second line will be directed broadcast monitors both the other projects with children that develop from the Municipal Social Services, as well as monitors and voluntary associations and organizations that develop projects with children in the different neighborhoods or districts of the municipality of Murcia and with whom we have stable coordination and collaboration.

The duration of the sessions will also 6 classroom hours and will take place during the last quarter of 2012 and for a maximum of 25 people per session.
