The Mayor Chamber reiterates commitment to King municipal economic sustainability and the future of Spain (13/09/2012)

His Majesty King Juan Carlos has granted an audience to the Governing Board of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, led by its President and Mayor of Santander, Iñigo de la Serna Hernáiz, and that is part of the Mayor of Murcia Miguel Ángel Cámara Botía.

Mayors have moved to King commitments and concerns of Spanish Local Governments in this mandate.

The audience responds to a formal request by the President of the FEMP after taking office last July 24, a position that replaces the Mayor of Sevilla, Juan Ignacio Zoido.

During the event, which have turned 22 of the 25 members of the Governing Board, De la Serna thanked the King, on behalf of all Spanish Mayors, the constant support given by the Crown to municipalities and FEMP own and recalled that the municipalities "are the link between tangible and concrete public authorities and neighbors."

He added that "we are turning our best efforts and energies in support of the disadvantaged, those who are faring worse in our municipalities as a result of the crisis we are facing."

In this regard, the President drew attention to the good level of compliance with the deficit and debt targets by the Local Government, pointing out that, in addition, "we are committed to maintaining a balanced budget, not to spend more than we enter. "

He also recalled the need for local governments when considering public sector reform: "The Local Government can not stay out of this process of change, but we are committed to being an active part of it."

The Governing Board presented the monarch with a commemorative collector's item of Brañosera Jurisdiction.

This is a plate on which is engraved the text of the Charter granted by Count Munio Nunez in the year 824 to repopulate the area Braña dare (Brasoñera, north of the province of Palencia).

The relevance of this Charter and recognition of rights that make this town makes Palencia is considered the first city council in Spain.
