The Mar Menor, star of a course at the University of the Sea, which begins tomorrow (04/09/2012)

A course at the International University of Mar-Campus Mare Nostrum will focus on research and resources of the Mar Menor in Murcia.

Separated from the Mediterranean by a strip of sand 22 miles long, the Mar Menor is a unique natural area in Spain, and the largest saltwater lake in Europe.

Circumstances that make this a particularly important in ecological aspect, as it supports the fact that it has been designated by the United Nations Specially Protected Area of ​​Mediterranean Importance.

The course, entitled "The Mar Menor: research and resources", is directed by José Meseguer Peñalver and Alfonsa García Ayala, and develop aspects of indigenous organisms in this ecosystem, such as defense mechanisms, maintenance, reproduction and health, and tourism, as important in the area.

In the aspect of research studies are remarkable in recent times on the seahorse and reproduction, a subject in which the region of Murcia is considered a pioneer.

The activity includes a visit to the weirs, a fishing method that allows copies of old fishing bream and mullet, among other species.

The course will be held in the town of San Javier (Faculty of Sport Sciences, street Argentina) between days 5 and 7 September.
