The doctoral dissertation at the University of Murcia by Juan Manuel Herrero Medrano has highlighted the genetic differences of the Chato Murciano pig known, making it can be differentiated both races that influenced their creation as they are raised in the same farms or in their environment.
This research, which has been rated as excellent cum laude, notes that the Chato Murciano pig is a local breed native to the Southeast of Spain "which is in danger of extinction."
For the realization of the thesis, the author looked at three genetic markers to mark the Chato Murciano and those breeds most likely to have contributed to the current genetic composition of it.
It has been proven the genetic contribution of the Iberian pig, "Large White" and "Berkshire", added the conclusions of the dissertation.
The directors of the research have been the teachers of the University of Murcia Manuel Antonio Luna and Guillermo Muñoz Vidal Ramis and university professor Richard Crooijmans Dutch Wageningen.
