The University of Murcia will work with a Chilean foundation for the integration of people with Down syndrome (12/07/2012)

The rector of the University of Murcia, Jose Antonio Cobacho, and the president of the Foundation CPUED of Chile, Jaime Contesse, today signed an agreement in Convalescence for the development of joint actions that result in the inclusion and improved quality of life people with down syndrome.

The University featured his collaboration with the Chilean-dedicated to enhancing the independence of people with Down syndrome, through the Center on Disability Studies and Promotion of Autonomy person, which was formed recently under the direction of professor Faculty of Education Nuria Illán.

Illan said that in the short term will deepen the shared housing program between students at the University of Murcia and people with the syndrome, is a pioneer initiative among Spanish universities.

The ultimate goal of cooperation, said the teacher, is "to generate good practice, knowledge transfer and seek the progressive transformation of society" in relation to the down.

Contesse coincided with the faculty of the University of Murcia on the need to fight for legislative changes that give status requiring down.

The signing was also attended by the Vice President for Coordination and Communication, María Ángeles Esteban, and the Vice Chancellor for Strategic Development and Training, Fernando Martin, which oversees the Center for Disability Studies and Promotion of Personal Autonomy.

The Vice Chancellor said that the agreement signed is exported brand awareness and University of Murcia in disability issues and promotion of personal autonomy to Chile and the rest of Latin America.
