The City renews its agreement with the Down Syndrome Foundation to develop the project "Introduction to Leisure and Urban Autonomy" (11/07/2012)

The City of Murcia, through the Department of Social Welfare, in their interest to support the group of people with disabilities to enjoy a dignified life with the same rights as any other person without a disability, partnership agreements and the granting financial contributions, among other actions.

In 2005 was signed the first agreement for the implementation of the project "Introduction to Leisure and Urban Autonomy."

The Governing Board of the City of Murcia has given the green light this morning to this renewal of the agreement, for a total of 41,810 euros.

This project is part of the "Comprehensive Training Programs and Continuing" that FUNDOWN performed for social and labor integration of its users and that are intended to offer training to the full development of the person with disability by learning skills and useful strategies for different areas of work life, personal, familial and social, among others, while encouraging active participation in the society in which is inserted as any other citizen / a.

FUNDOWN attaches great importance to the activities in a normal environment and integration, in this aspect is an important social advocacy and community education about the potential of people with intellectual disabilities by providing meeting places in the various resources social and recreational spaces.

The Project is aimed at young people with mental disabilities whose leisure experiences are limited, in order to get started, develop and maintain in them a satisfying entertainment.

Users of this program will be distributed approximately 50 groups of no more than 10 people aged between 16 and 45, predominantly male.

The content of the project is divided into six modules that provide a broad view of all dimensions of leisure.

Likewise, try to work together and global environments where everyone spends more time: the family and instead of training and work.

It is also in the home where you can get the actual implementation of the insights offered in this project, it is required that the family supports and promotes the user's initiative in tasks requiring autonomy and management their free time.

For the renewal of the cooperation agreement in force for 2012, FUNDOWN presents the project "School of Life: Shared Housing Program" located under the Quality of Life, that is also subsidized by the City in previous years .

FUNDOWN This initiative is based on the coexistence of people with intellectual disabilities and students at the University of Murcia, on an equal footing, in order to implement a progressive training model allows for independent living training people with intellectual disabilities in all contexts in which they operate, that is, family, educational, occupational, and relational.

The number of beneficiaries planned for housing and training modules for independent living is 14 people with disabilities and seven students from the University of Murcia, as well as their families.

Participants with intellectual disabilities should have motivation and commitment to the initiative, and support their families.

On the other hand, must have a minimum level of autonomy and have no serious behavior problems.

In terms of physical space, is fundamental to any initiative can be developed within the targeted approaches.

Place of the implementation of the activities are three:

- Activities Coordination and Discussion Groups, held at the headquarters of FUNDOWN.

- Coexistence activities, which develop in housing.

- Other Activities, to be implemented in standard spaces such as shops, entertainment, and health services.
