A committee will monitor absenteeism and dropout in the municipality (04/07/2012)

Murcia City Council approved the creation of the City Commission for Prevention, Monitoring and Control of Absenteeism and Dropout, which aims to make a radiograph of absenteeism and drop-in Murcia and propose measures and counseling to eliminate these situations.

This body was created at the request of the Department of Education, through the Municipal Services Social Services.

It is a collegial body with advisory status for the advice, planning and coordination of many actions, measures, plans and programs are made from public policies for prevention, intervention and elimination of truancy and dropouts in the municipality.

The Regional Plan for Prevention, Monitoring and Control of Absenteeism and Dropout, established on June 18, 2010, envisages the creation of Commissions Municipal Truancy and Dropout in different locations in the region.

The City Commission will issue reports on matters Murcia on absenteeism and dropout rates requested by the Department of Education or at the request of the Ministry.

Such reports shall not be binding.

Among its objectives is to promote the development and implementation of the Municipal Plan for Prevention, Monitoring and Control of Absenteeism and Dropout, tracking and control of their implementation, define, analyze and evaluate absenteeism and truancy, and the causes that produce, collect and analyze comprehensive data on absenteeism and dropouts in the municipality of Murcia, make proposals for coordination between schools and the municipal administration in the fight against truancy and dropout, and agree and urge to take appropriate punitive measures aimed at mothers and fathers who do not meet the mandatory school attendance of their daughters or sons, among many other things.

The Committee is chaired by the Mayor of Murcia, and consists of a secretary as well as Councilwoman of Social Services, Councillor responsible for Local Police, Head of Social Services, Head of Education, director of the Centers Municipal Social Services and head of the Department of Child and Adolescent Social Services.

Also, be part of a proposal from the Department, a Technical Service to Diversity, a professor of community services EOEPs, a professor of community services to the Guidance Department, an inspector of primary education and a secondary school inspector, a representative of the direction of Public Institutions and Primary Education of the municipality, a representative of the direction of Public Secondary Education Centers in the municipality, a representative of the Directorate of Primary concerted Centers, a representative of approved private secondary schools, a representative of the AMPAS, a student representative and a representative of the Ministry competent for the protection of minors.

This body will be supported by a technical committee headed by the Head of Social Services, a secretary and directors as members of the Centres of Social Services, three socio-technical municipal level, the head of the Department of Children and Adolescents in the municipal social services, a service technician for Diversity, a professor of community services EOEPs, a professor of community services Guidance Department, an inspector of Elementary and Secondary Education inspector.

In terms of truancy, the City has two vocational centers in El Palmar (hotel) and Espinardo (mechanical), involving young people with high levels of truancy and who have managed to integrate back into the education system.

In addition, the Authority and the University of Murcia held the school reinforcement project in families, in which university students volunteers help children with school problems.
