A thousand trees planted (17/06/2012)

The Department of Environment of the City of Murcia has planted a thousand trees, 11,500 shrubs and 122,000 flowering plants so far this year.

It is replaced in municipal green areas plants have been removed and new ones planted to beautify the parks and contribute to enriching the biodiversity of the same.

The Councillor for Environment, Adela Martinez-Cachá, has indicated that always bet on species well adapted to our climate and need little water.

Among the most common on the streets and parks and gardens of the municipality are the orange and mulberry trees hallmark of which account for almost half of the trees planted, along with jacarandas, ficus and twenty other species.

As for shrubs and flowering plants, alternate traditional geraniums and gipsies, the acanthus and daisies, with plenty of plants from areas with similar climate to ours that are used in landscaping avant-garde.

The Department of Environment, in collaboration with Cespa, performs maintenance tasks around the trees, with periodic reviews to detect all the faults of existing plants.

Plantation loss is due to many causes like old age, lack of adaptation to the planting site, damage caused by accidents or weather influences such as wind and mostly vandalism.
