Professional seniors residence of St. Basil are formed in palliative care (17/06/2012)

The Community has since 2007 with a Comprehensive Plan for Palliative Care in 2011 served a total of 2,318 new patients

Over 50 professionals from the residence for elderly people of St. Basil, in Murcia, have participated in this week's talk Dr. Jordi Valls training entitled 'The spread of awareness in palliative nursing homes'.

The Senior General Manager, Enrique Perez, stressed the "importance" of this meeting to promote social and health care to elderly and dependent.

Increased life expectancy and chronic disease and complex with a prognosis of limited life, according to Perez, "are essential factors that make the presence of socio-medical equipment as well as specialized professionals in palliative care."

The CEO appreciated all the efforts to coordinate and promote interdisciplinary work between the different levels of care to provide comprehensive care treatments based on health status and psychological support, spiritual and emotional.

The Ministry of Health and Social Policy, through the Murcia Health Service (SMS), has a partnership agreement since 2009 with the San Jose Institute Foundation and the Foundation to pay attention Jesus Forsaken by psychosocial support teams.

Today, these professionals work directly with a total of 1,053 patients and their families, involving in caring for the patient to different professionals such as doctors or psychologists, among others.

Palliative care

The Ministry of Health and Social Policy developed in 2007 a Comprehensive Plan for Palliative Care has 15 palliative care units and nine hospital units which perform their work in hospitals and outpatient.

During the past year, the regional teams palliative care 2,318 new patients attended.

Of the total, 57 percent were treated in their homes or residences and the remaining 43 percent, in the hospitals of the Community.

The palliative home care teams directly support professionals in the socio-regional health centers.

Every year since the beginning of the Plan to attend the training offered by the professional SMS of these centers with high participation.

On the other hand, all citizens or professionals who wish may visit the website www.cuidarypaliar.es in 2011 received nearly 5,000 hits and also run several training projects such as workshops or online courses.
